The tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a popular procedure among patients because the stomach can be such a difficult area to perfect. If you’re struggling to get a flat stomach and you’re located in Orlando, Lake Mary, or neighboring communities, you can rely on Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates to help get you the toned stomach you desire.
For some men and women, diet and exercise may fall short in reaching their flat tummy and “six-pack” goals. Unfortunately, no matter how many crunches you do, your abdomen may be unable to transform into the lean, slim look you’ve been working towards.
If you are unhappy with excess abdominal fat, a protruding belly, or loose, sagging skin after losing weight, pregnancy, or simple aging, a tummy tuck can help to tone and sculpt your midsection.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, in Orlando and Lake Mary is a surgical procedure that can tighten the underlying abdominal muscles while removing unnecessary fat and loose skin. In some cases, liposuction methods may be recommended to help sculpt and eliminate extra fat that is unable to be removed with a tummy tuck.
During this procedure, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall, making them firmer and toner, and suture the muscles in place. The result of a tummy tuck is a firmer, flatter tummy, one that diet and exercise alone was unable to achieve.
What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck is a variation of a traditional abdominoplasty. During a mini tummy tuck we make a small incision just above the pubic line (similar to the incision made during a cesarean) and tighten the muscle. During your consultation we will consider both surgeries to determine the optimal surgery option for your body type and goals.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck in the Orlando Area?
Are you troubled by the appearance of your midsection? Do you cover up at the beach or wear loose fitting clothes to cover up any lumps or bumps? If you want a firmer, sleeker silhouette with realistic expectations of surgery, you are most likely a good candidate for a tummy tuck. A consultation with Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston is necessary to determine your candidacy, discuss your cosmetic goals, and what you can expect after your procedure.
Tummy tuck procedures will not be used as a weight loss technique, and do not substitute for dieting and exercising. It’s correct to utilize a tummy tuck for a final contour after your weight loss journey. Additionally, a tummy tuck is not meant to eliminate stretch marks, even though some may be removed if located below the belly button where the excess skin is removed.

What Can I Expect From a Tummy Tuck?
After your tummy tuck procedure, you should notice a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is proportionate and complements your body weight and type. The results of your tummy tuck will continue to improve as swelling and bruising subside. Within a week or two, most patients are standing tall and confident with their new figure.
Skin will be glued together to avoid stitching marks. You will be wrapped in an elastic bandage to support your new belly contour. During recovery, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will recommend the use of Spanks or other compression garments that promotes healing and reduces swelling.

There are four major types of tummy tuck surgery: mini-abdominoplasty, major abdominoplasty, lipo-abdominoplasty, and circumferential abdominoplasty, more correctly named lower body lift. The primary goal of abdominoplasty is to remove unwanted, excess skin and improve the belly pouch abdominal contour. Other refinements can include muscle tightening and liposucton to remove unwanted fat. Pricing will be dependent on each individual and the type of tummy tuck they choose to undergo.
- Mini-Abdominoplasty: Tightens loose skin below the belly-button. The scar is short and usually located on top of the pubic area, much like a transverse C-section scar.
- Major Abdominoplasty: Tightens the loose skin above and below the belly-button from the rib margin to the pubic area. It often includes tightening the abdominal rectus muscle separation (also known as a rectus diastasis).
- Circumferential Abdominoplasty: Also known as a lower body lift. Usually done to patients who have had major weight loss. This includes lifting of the buttocks, lateral thighs and fallen pubic area.
How Long is Recovery From a Tummy Tuck?
After your procedure, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will apply dressings or bandages to your tummy tuck incision, and you may be wrapped in a compression garment to minimize swelling and support your new abdomen contour as it heals. Since the length of recovery greatly depends on your individualized procedure, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will discuss recovery time and process with you during your initial consultation.
It is important to understand that body sculpting surgeries are not for weight reduction and are best suited for men and women that are in relatively good shape. Body sculpting surgery is not recommended for people who are significantly overweight or if you plan on becoming pregnant again.
Here is a Body Mass Index calculator for you to get a general idea if you may be a good candidate for a body sculpting surgery at your present weight. You should have a BMI less than 30 to safely consider surgery.
