What is IPL Light Therapy?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, or IPL Photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive and non-surgical treatment that uses high intensity pulses of visible light to improve the appearance of the following skin problems:

  • Broken cappillaries, port wine stains, rosy cheeks, rosacea and red thread veins of the legs
  • Freckles, birthmarks and age marks
  • Facial lines and wrinkles

The procedure of rejuvenating aged skin is referred to as photo-rejuvenation and requires a series of IPL treatments. IPL may also be helpful for mild to moderate acne and stretch marks.

What can I expect from IPL Light Therapy?

During your treatment, cold coupling gel will be applied to the treatment area(s) to ensure your comfort. Depending on the amount of areas being treated, your treatment session should last between 15 and 30 minutes. A warm sensation may be felt when the the light is applied to the skin, but you should not feel discomfort.

How long is the recovery from IPL Light Therapy?

Patients can expect to see results after 2-6 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Directly after treatment, you may experience redness in and around the areas treated, though this should resolve itself within a few hours. Makeup may be applied after treatment, though it is advised to avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen for a couple of days.
