For a non-invasive procedure that treats a wide variety of skin conditions, look no further than chemical peels. Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates has been providing chemical peels for years to treat wrinkles, age spots, acne, and more. We welcome patients in Orlando, Lake Mary, and neighboring communities who are interested in chemical peels.
A chemical peel uses exfoliating solutions such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA), phenol, or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). These peels address the textural changes that occur in the skin from the negative effects of time and environmental factors like smoking, sun damage and facial expressions. Chemical peels vary in their strength, depth of penetration and their overall effect.
TCA Peels are mild peels, but much deeper than the peels available at spas and non-medical settings. In each session, the peel solution is applied to your face. This removes outer layers of unhealthy skin. You may experience some burning and stinging, but this soon dissipates. After the outer skin layer peels, it is replaced with new, more youthful skin.
Phenol-Croton Oil Peel
This facial peel peels the top layers of your skin. Croton oil causes dermal injury and realigns the elastic fibers and collagen in the deeper layers of your skin. As healing takes place, new collagen forms in the deep dermal layers of your skin. The end result is healthier skin that is radiant, smoother and thicker. A phenol-croton oil peel is uncomfortable enough to require anesthesia. Healing time can differentiate per patient.
What to Expect During Chemical Peels
Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will review your medical history and discuss your concerns and goals. There is the opportunity for questions and an explanation of the procedure(s). A second consultation may be recommended for final questions and to discuss the risks of treatment. Insurance does not cover chemical peels since it is considered a cosmetic procedure designed to improve appearance. You should expect to spend seven to 10 days off work, and may have crusting, swelling and peeling for one week. After that, make-up can be applied and patients are able to return to work.
Chemical peels are medical procedures that should be performed by trained professionals. At Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates, you can trust that you’re getting the highest quality of care by qualified providers.
