Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Orlando, FL

Aging has unavoidable effects on the body, and eyelids are one of the first places to display these signs. Eyelid surgery can correct characteristics like crows feet and make you look years younger. Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates offers blepharoplasty to patients in Orlando, Lake Mary, and neighboring communities.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

There are two methods of eyelid surgery, addressing the upper and lower lid. During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston marks the individual lines and creases of your eyelids in order to create incisions in inconspicuous natural folds. Once the incision is made, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston meticulously removes or repositions excess fat, and loose muscles and skin are removed.

During a lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston creates an incision along the lash line and smile creases, so that scarring is almost invisible. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are trimmed away for a wider eye appearance. After surgery, fine, self-dissolving sutures close the incisions, minimizing the visibility of scarring. In most cases, a blepharoplasty procedure takes approximately one to two hours to complete.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery in the Orlando Area?

If you have noticed your eyes look tired or droopy, and want to improve your baggy eyelid appearance, you may be a good candidate for eyelid rejuvenation. It’s important to be honest about your cosmetic goals with Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston, as well as your health history, which may interfere with your healing. During your personalized consultation, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will discuss realistic results from your surgery with you and how to achieve these results.

What Can I Expect From Eyelid Rejuvenation?

It’s important to understand, eyelid rejuvenation does not improve dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it lift sagging eyebrows. Although blepharoplasty is a successful procedure when performed alone, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston may recommend other cosmetic procedures, such as brow lift, face lift, or laser skin resurfacing, for a more dramatic improvement.

What is the Cost of Eyelid Surgery in Orlando?

Consultations for elective cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures are complimentary at Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates. Before your appointment, please provide us with your medical information by filling out our History and Physical Form.

We provide complimentary consultations to inform you about your area of interest, outline your goals, give you realistic forecasts of what can be accomplished, assist you in making good choices among the options, and address all of your questions.

We will provide you with a plan and specific cost estimate customized to your individual needs at the time of your complimentary consultation. There are different types of blepharoplasty surgery, including performing surgery on both upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or all four. Sometimes the lower eyelids are lax and need tightening so they do not sag afterwards; this procedure is called a canthopexy. Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will advise you if you need this additional procedure at the time of your consultation. If you anticipate insurance coverage, pre-authorization will be necessary. Ask about this when you schedule your consultation.

Normally, costs include:

  • Surgeon’s fees (includes all office visits and performing the surgery)
  • Anesthesia Fees
  • Facility fees
  • Baseline labs
  • CosmetAssure® Insurance program if applicable
  • Pre-operative goody bag along with prescriptions, supplies, pre- and post-surgical instruction booklets and post-surgical recovery kit (includes initial garments, homeopathic medications to reduce bruising and scar reduction supplies)

What’s not included:

  • X-rays, EKG (electrocardiogram if over 50)
  • Specialty consultations

How Long is the Recovery From Eyelid Surgery?

Right after your surgery, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will apply small bandages over your incisions. Your eyes don’t have to be covered, however, he will provide ointment to prevent dryness of the area. During recovery, swelling and bruising is normal and should resolve on its own over time. To help with discomfort, Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston recommends cold compresses, head elevation when lying down, and pain medication. The stitches will be removed within five days after the operation. Self-absorbing stitches do not need to be removed and dissolve on their own. Dr. Sosa and Dr. Johnston will provide precise instructions for a healthy and quick recovery.
