Hurricane Safety

As Orlando residents know, hurricane season in America is from June 1st through November 30th. When a shutterstock_434705590-1hurricane hits, it is important to be fully prepared. We’ve compiled a list of things you will need to stay prepared and safe this hurricane season.

Supplies and Food

When a storm hits, it is unlikely that you’ll be able to visit the grocery store for food. That is why you will want to be stocked up on non-perishable foods that will last for an extended period of time.  Important items may include baby food and formula, bottled water, pet food, instant coffee or tea, and canned meats, veggies, and soups, just to name a few.

You will also want some supplies handy during the two weeks following the storm. Be sure to be stocked up on baby care and cleaning supplies, clothing and bedding, communication supplies such as batteries, car chargers, distress flags, spray paint, etc., and tools such as an alarm clock, duct tape, and manual can opener. A full list of non-perishable foods and emergency supplies that you should be sure to purchase can be found at http://www.publix.com/pages/publix-storm-basics.

After the Hurricane

After the hurricane, you will want to remain indoors until you have official notice that it is ok to leave the house. Be sure to avoid trees and any other objects that have come in contact with power lines, as these can be extremely dangerous.

Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates hopes everyone stays safe and prepared during this hurricane season.
